Lys-Pro-Val — Research Findings

(Lys-Pro-Val) is a three-amino-acid chain derived from the C-terminal portion of α-MSH (alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone). Research on Lys-Pro-Val has primarily focused on its potential anti-inflammatory activity in laboratory and animal models.

Studies have reported several areas of interest:

  • Inflammatory signaling: In cell studies, Lys-Pro-Valhas been observed to reducLys-Pro-Vale activation of inflammatory pathways including NF-κB and MAPK, as well as decrease the production of certain pro-inflammatory cytokines.
  • Intestinal inflammation: In mouse models of experimentally induced colitis,  treatment was associated with reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, lower markers of inflammation, and improved histological findings.
  • Intestinal cellular uptake: Research suggests Lys-Pro-Val can be transported into intestinal epithelial and immune cells through the PepT1 peptide transporter, providing one proposed mechanism for its effects in intestinal inflammation models.
  • Skin-related inflammation: Laboratory research has investigated Lys-Pro-Val in skin cells and models of inflammation. A 2025 study using human keratinocytes found that Lys-Pro-Val was associated with reduced oxidative stress, IL-1β production, and activation of inflammatory signaling pathways following particulate-matter exposure.
  • Immune-response modulation: Earlier research on α-MSH-derived peptides, including Lys-Pro-Val, has reported effects on inflammatory cell activity, cytokine signaling, and other components of the immune response.

Important research limitation: These findings are primarily from cell experiments and animal studies. They demonstrate biological activity that researchers consider potentially interesting, but they do not establish that Lys-Pro-Val produces the same effects in humans. Current literature does not provide strong human clinical evidence demonstrating specific health benefits of Lys-Pro-Val

Therefore, the most accurate way to describe Lys-Pro-Val is as an experimental chain being studied for anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, rather than as a treatment proven to prevent, cure, or heal a particular condition.
